A new spell of rain and snowfall is expected across several parts of the country next week as another western weather system approaches Pakistan, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Saturday.

According to the PMD, the system is likely to enter the country on December 29 and remain active through December 31.

During this period, rain is expected in various areas of Balochistan, while snowfall is likely over the mountainous regions.

From December 30 to January 1, rain is forecast in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The weather office said Islamabad, Murree, the Galiyat and the plains of Punjab may receive rain from December 30 to January 2.

The PMD warned that snowfall could disrupt travel in upper areas. It also cautioned that there was a risk of avalanches in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan during the period.
