Female medical student dies after jumping from hostel roof in Lahore

A final-year medical student of Fatima Jinnah Medical College died after allegedly jumping from the roof of the college hostel in Lahore, police and hospital officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The student, identified as 22-year-old Fareeha, sustained critical head injuries and was rushed to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Doctors said she suffered severe brain trauma and could not survive despite emergency treatment.

According to police, a call was received at the emergency helpline at around 7:55 a.m., reporting that a female student had jumped from the third floor of the hostel building.

She was shifted to the hospital in critical condition, but could not be saved.

Initial information suggests the student had been under severe stress and depression.

Fareeha, a resident of Azad Kashmir, was appearing in her final-year medical examinations.

One paper had already been conducted, while her second paper was scheduled for Friday, February 19.

Police said the student had previously been living in Lahore with her father and was currently residing in the college hostel.

Further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway.

Following the incident, a medical board has been formed, while a fact-finding committee has also been constituted to investigate the matter.

The committee has been directed to submit its report at the earliest.

The Government of Punjab has been informed of the incident, and an official inquiry has been launched to determine responsibility.

Authorities said more details would be shared after completion of the investigation.
