Punjab moves to modernize examination system
The Punjab Boards Committee has approved major reforms in the province’s matriculation and intermediate examination system, aiming to make the process more modern, transparent, and reliable.
Under the new measures, manual checking and traditional monitoring systems have been abolished. A fully digital system will be implemented, including digital marking of answer sheets, which will be scanned and checked on computer screens.
Biometric registration has been introduced for students in the 9th and 11th grades, with thumbprints now required as part of registration.
Biometric verification will also be mandatory for entry into examination centres, and attendance during examinations will be recorded through biometric systems.
The committee also approved changes to practical examinations in science subjects to make them more effective. Partial implementation of the reforms is scheduled to begin this year.
Officials said the move is part of a broader effort to modernise the examination process and reduce human error and malpractice.
