Sindh minister orders probe to fix responsibility for Gul Plaza fire
Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar has directed the Gul Plaza Inquiry Commission to fix responsibility for the deadly blaze that claimed dozens of lives in Karachi.
In a statement, the minister said that the commission, headed by Justice Agha Faisal, would complete its investigation report within eight weeks.
He said the commission would examine the legal questions relating to the building’s construction and lease approval.
Lanjar said the commission would also conduct a detailed review of violations of the approved building plan and obstacles to emergency evacuation.
He added that the reported delay in firefighting response and fire safety audits would also be investigated.
The home minister said the commission would assess the causes and circumstances of the fire as well as the speed and effectiveness of the rescue operation.
Directing that responsibility be fixed against negligent officers and the building management, Lanjar instructed the Karachi commissioner to provide full support to the inquiry commission.
He said the Sindh government would not delay relief for the victims of the Gul Plaza incident and that strict measures and effective investigations would be carried out to bring the facts to light.
