Salman Safdar meets Imran Khan in Jail
Acting on orders from Pakistan’s Supreme Court, lawyer Salman Safdar met jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, officials and lawyers said.
Salman Safdar, who has been appointed a friend of the court in cases involving Khan, was the only lawyer permitted to meet the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, while other party leaders and Khan’s family members were stopped at a checkpoint outside the jail.
Imran Khan’s sisters, senior PTI figures Barrister Gohar, Latif Khosa, Salman Akram Raja and several other party leaders had reached Adiala Jail for the meeting but were halted at the Marble Factory checkpoint, sources said.
Salman Safdar entered the jail through Gate No 5, the same gate used by the family of Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, who were also allowed access.
The meeting between Imran Khan and Salman Safdar lasted around three hours and was held inside the former prime minister’s cell under direct instructions from the Supreme Court.
After leaving the jail, Safdar told reporters that Khan’s health was “good” and said the meeting had taken place strictly in line with court orders.
