PSL matches to return to Peshawar as KP reviews security, reforms
A high-level security and governance meeting held at Corps Headquarters Peshawar, has approved the hosting of Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches in the provincial capital, signalling improved security conditions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, was attended by the Federal Interior Minister, the National Security Adviser, Corps Commander Peshawar, and senior civil and military officials. Participants reviewed the overall security situation in the province and paid tribute to civilians and security personnel martyred in terrorist attacks.
Officials said the forum expressed satisfaction over recent security measures and agreed that Peshawar was ready to host PSL fixtures.
The meeting also decided to immediately implement a new governance and administrative model in Malakand Division under the supervision of the provincial police and other departments.
Authorities said the model would serve as a pilot project and, if successful, would be extended in phases to affected districts, particularly Khyber, Orakzai and Kurram.
To ensure effective oversight, the meeting approved the formation of a special subcommittee headed by the chief minister. The committee will monitor development projects, review security operations and hold monthly evaluation meetings.
The subcommittee will include elected representatives, the Corps Commander Peshawar, the chief secretary, the inspector general of police, senior provincial officials and representatives of federal institutions.
Officials said the body would also focus on improving governance, accelerating development, creating alternative livelihood opportunities for residents and addressing issues faced by temporarily displaced persons.
The meeting further agreed to enhance coordination between the federal and provincial governments to ensure a unified policy approach against terrorism.
Participants also decided to continue strict action against illegal SIM cards, explosives, extortion and other criminal activities. Authorities will also step up the profiling of non-custom-paid vehicles in phases.
The forum stressed the need to promote positive thinking among youth and create sustainable employment opportunities to counter extremist tendencies.
