SC rejects request for immediate meeting with Imran Khan
The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday rejected a request seeking an immediate meeting with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.
A two-member bench, led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi, heard the petitions related to the PTI founder.
During the hearing, PTI leader Latif Khosa sought permission for an urgent meeting with Imran Khan, prompting the court to issue notices to the government for a response by Tuesday.
Chief Justice Yahya Afridi told Khosa that the court could not issue any order without serving notice to the other parties.
He added that the issue of whether the petition is maintainable still needed to be resolved.
“Keep in mind, your cases are pending in other courts. In our view, this case may have become ineffective. The original order dates back to August 24, 2023,” the chief justice said.
The court also dismissed the PTI founder’s bail petition in the Al Qadir Trust case on being ineffective.
A report regarding the PTI founder’s current health in prison was sought by the court.
Separately, in the Toshakhana case, the court issued notices to all parties and adjourned the matter until Tuesday.
The bench remarked that no order declaring the proceedings illegal could be made without following due process.
For appeals against Imran Khan’s acquittal in the cypher case, the Supreme Court directed the formation of a three-member bench.
Similarly, hearings related to the cancellation of Imran Khan’s bail in the May 9 Lahore unrest cases and the defamation petition filed against him by Shehbaz Sharif will also be heard by a three-member bench.
These hearings were adjourned for two weeks.
