Kites, culture and candles: Basant draws to a close in Lahore
Candles symbolising peace were released into the sky on the third and final day of Basant, bringing the three-day festival in Lahore to a close.
Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari said the “candles of hope” would once again usher in the joys of Basant next year.
She said Lahoris had ensured the protection of their festival and cultural heritage by strictly adhering to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Azma Bokhari said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had proven herself to be a guardian of the happiness and traditions of Lahore and Punjab.
Basant witnessed three days of kite flying, music, food, celebrations and festivities across the city.
People of all ages took to the rooftops with kites, engaged in kite-flying contests, raised celebratory slogans and hosted gatherings.
The festival time on the last day was extended until 5am as a reward for the people of Lahore for following safety protocols during celebrations.
Following the successful festival in Lahore, the Punjab chief minister indicated that Basant could also be celebrated in other cities of the province.
