PDMA issues flash flood advisory for upper KP as rain, snowfall forecast
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a flash flood advisory for upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, warning of rain and snowfall from January 21 to 24 under the influence of a strong western weather system.
According to PDMA officials, the system is expected to affect the country’s upper regions, increasing the risk of rising water levels in the Kabul River and its tributaries due to sustained rainfall.
The authority has issued flash flood warnings to all concerned district administrations, cautioning that Swat, Chitral, Dir, Buner, Shangla and other districts face a heightened risk of flash flooding.
District administrations have been directed to remain on alert in low-lying and sensitive areas and to take precautionary measures in advance.
PDMA has also instructed Rescue 1122, Civil Defence and other relevant departments to remain on high alert throughout the forecast period.
Residents living along the banks of the Kabul River have been advised to exercise caution and adopt safety measures.
PDMA has further directed district authorities to ensure timely evacuation of populations in areas deemed vulnerable to flooding.
The authority said it would continue to monitor the situation and share updates with relevant departments to minimise risks and ensure public safety.
