Sindh CM announces rehabilitation of Gul plaza victims, rebuilding of the market
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has announced plans to rebuild Gul Plaza and provide full rehabilitation to all affected traders and families of victims following the tragic fire.
In a meeting chaired by the CM, officials briefed on the fire incident, which destroyed the 8,000-square-yard plaza and its 1,200 shops.
So far, 14 bodies have been recovered, while the total death toll is estimated to be over 50.
Cooling operations are ongoing after the fire was brought under control by 16 fire tenders and 50–60 firefighters, with support from water tankers provided by the Water Board.
The CM said that the fire caused severe disruption, leaving many affected families and traders without livelihoods overnight.
He directed immediate steps for the rehabilitation of all victims and emphasised the urgent provision of shops to help traders resume business.
A fact-finding and compensation committee has been established, including Nasser Shah, Saeed Ghani, Murtaza Wahab, and the Karachi Commissioner, to provide recommendations on compensation amounts and recovery plans.
The CM also expressed condolences for the families of the martyred firefighters and stated that immediate compensation would be provided.
Long-term plans for improved fire safety and preventive measures will also be implemented.
