RAW agent among 49 terrorists arrested in Punjab’s crackdown
The Counter Terrorism Department of Punjab arrested 49 alleged militants, including an Indian intelligence agent associated with RAW, in 425 intelligence-based operations across various cities over the past month.
The alleged Indian agent, identified as Mujtaba, who was arrested in Lahore, was found in possession of explosive materials, weapons, and blueprints of important buildings.
The CTD officials said explosives, two hand-grenades, six IEDs (improvised explosive devices), and 36 detonators were seized from the terrorists.
Security fuses, wires, and cash were also confiscated during the operations, they added.
The arrested militants have been identified as Shaukat, Naveed, Abdul Rehman, Amjad Khan, Shahid, Abrar, Danish Khan, and Ehsanullah, among others.
According to CTD officials, the terrorists had planned to carry out attacks at various locations in a bid to cause fear and disrupt peace.
The raids were conducted in several cities, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Dera Ghazi Khan, Faisalabad, Chiniot, and Sialkot.
Additionally, 6,131 combing operations were carried out last month, resulting in the detention of 599 suspects.
A total of 243,546 people were interrogated during these operations.
