Yemen’s prime minister resigns, new leader appointed
Yemen’s Prime Minister Salem Saleh Bin Braik has resigned, and the Presidential Leadership Council has officially accepted his resignation, appointing Foreign Minister Dr Shaikh Mohsen Al-Zindani as the country’s new prime minister.
According to a statement by the council, Bin Braik’s resignation was accepted in the national interest and in consideration of current circumstances.
The statement added that the new leadership is expected to take effective measures to address the country’s political, security, and administrative challenges.
The change comes as southern Yemen has experienced prolonged instability.
Last December, the Transitional Council declared control over southern regions, leading to increased activity by separatist groups, some operating near the Saudi border, heightening regional tensions.
Political analysts suggest the prime ministerial change aims to restore stability and balance among Yemen’s various political and regional forces.
However, ongoing conflicts and complex realities on the ground are likely to pose significant challenges for the new government.
Yemen has been facing years of civil war, economic crisis, and humanitarian issues, with millions struggling to access basic services.
The new leadership’s main challenge will be restoring peace and improving living conditions for the population.
