PTI workers attacked Aaj News DSNG, reporter and cameraman injured
Clashes broke out between police and workers of Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party on Sunday as workers attempted to enter Bagh-e-Jinnah Ground ahead of a planned rally in Karachi.
PTI supporters attacked the vehicle of Aaj News outside the venue, injuring a reporter and a cameraman. Video footage showed protesters pelting stones at a police vehicle near the Numaish Chowrangi area.
Home Minister Sindh Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar said he had taken notice of the incident.
He directed authorities to identify and arrest those involved using surveillance systems and said strict action would be taken against anyone disrupting law and order.
PTI Sindh spokesperson Muhammad Ali Baloch said that we condemn the attack on the media at the exhibition. The workers are peaceful; no one is allowed to take the law into their own hands. If anyone attacks the media, action will be taken against these miscreants.
Government spokesperson for Sindh Barrister Raja Ansari also condemned the assault on the Aaj News team, calling it an attack on press freedom, and urged immediate action against those responsible.
A heavy police presence was deployed in and around the Bagh-e-Jinnah Ground and the nearby Quaid-e-Azam mausoleum ahead of the rally.
