Punjab braces for cold wave as PDMA issues alert
The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Saturday issued an alert to concerned departments, warning of a sharp drop in temperatures across the province from January 10 to 16.
In a letter sent to the Tourism, Education, Health, Agriculture, Local Government, Forest, C&W, Transport, Rescue 1122, National Highways and Police departments, the PDMA said severe cold conditions are expected in several areas.
The authority said Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat and the Potohar region may receive snowfall along with intense cold. It also warned of worsening fog and smog in parts of the province during the same period.
Educational institutions have been advised to issue guidelines to students on warm clothing. Administrations were also told to ensure classrooms are protected against cold.
The PDMA said its control room is monitoring the situation round the clock and departments should remain prepared to respond to any emergency.
Citizens were advised to avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather and follow official advisories.
