Rana Sanaullah says future of PTI talks to be decided on Feb 8
Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah said on Friday that it would become clear on February 8 whether talks with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) would take place, warning that negotiations would not be possible if the party proceeded with a “wheel-jam strike.”
Speaking on a Geo News programme, the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader said the constitution does not allow wheel-jam strikes, describing them as inherently non-peaceful and part of a plan to create unrest. He said PTI’s call for such a strike on February 8 undermined the prospects of dialogue.
Rana Sanaullah said there was no likelihood of PTI’s movement succeeding and claimed the party was not in a position to launch an effective street protest.
He also alleged that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was engaged in unlawful activities.
The prime minister’s adviser said the government had no objection to PTI’s political activities in Karachi but stressed that the Sindh government would not permit a wheel-jam strike in the city.
He warned that any unlawful actions would invite legal consequences, adding that those involved would later complain about the registration of FIRs.
Commenting on national security, Rana Sanaullah accused PTI of creating ambiguity over counterterrorism operations.
He said while PTI had stated it did not support terrorism, it also failed to back the security forces fighting militants, calling this stance objectionable.
“I have not heard PTI clearly condemn terrorism,” he said, urging the party to abandon what he termed a problematic narrative and to support the forces if it truly opposed militancy.
Rana Sanaullah reiterated that he had always supported dialogue and believed political parties should resolve issues through talks. However, he said there was no possibility of negotiations with PTI before February 8.
