Following recent tensions along the Pak-Afghan border, Pakistani authorities said the armed forces carried out retaliatory operations at multiple locations inside Afghanistan, targeting military installations and other positions.

According to a government statement and security sources, at least 133 Afghan Taliban fighters were killed, and more than 200 were injured in the operations.

Targets reportedly included sites in Kabul, Kandahar and Paktia.

Security sources said operations are continuing and that enemy positions are being targeted in border and interior areas.

They claimed the core headquarters of the Afghan Taliban in Kandahar was destroyed, along with other posts in multiple sectors.

Officials also said several posts were captured and others demolished along the border regions.

Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar said in a statement on social media platform X that counter-attacks were ongoing inside Afghanistan and that significant losses had been inflicted.

He said 27 Taliban posts had been destroyed and nine captured, adding that military headquarters, weapons depots and a logistics base were targeted.

He also claimed more than 80 tanks, cannons and armoured vehicles were destroyed.

Tarar described the action as a response to alleged cross-border firing.

Security sources said attempts by the Taliban to attack Pakistani posts using quadcopters were foiled, and the devices were shot down.

According to officials, clashes and exchanges of fire occurred in several border sectors, including areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid acknowledged that airstrikes took place in Kabul, Kandahar and Paktia.

Journalists from Agence France-Presse reported hearing explosions in Kabul, followed by aircraft sounds and gunfire.

Residents said blasts were heard for around 40 minutes.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan’s armed forces are prepared to defend the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He said the forces are fully capable of responding to aggression and that the nation stands with them.

President Asif Ali Zardari also said the country would not compromise on security or territorial integrity, adding that responsible elements would be held accountable.
