Four policemen were martyred, and two others were wounded when unidentified attackers opened fire on a patrol party in Bajaur on Wednesday evening, police said.

The attack took place in the Nawai Kallay area of Khar, where the Ababeel Police Force was conducting routine patrols during Ramazan.

Khar Police Station SHO Gul Zada confirmed that the assailants targeted the Ababeel Squad near Iftar time, opening indiscriminate fire.

Four officers were killed on the spot, while two sustained serious injuries.

The injured personnel were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Khar for medical treatment.

Police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the attackers. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the assault.
