Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Wednesday announced the formation of an “Imran Khan Release Force” to launch a peaceful struggle aimed at securing the release of the PTI founder.

Speaking to the media outside the Supreme Court in Islamabad, Afridi said the PTI founder had assigned the responsibility of holding negotiations and street movement to Allama Nasir Abbas and Mehmood Achakzai.

He said that while the protest call had been withdrawn by party leaders, preparations for a broader protest movement would continue.

Afridi stated that the proposed force would carry out a peaceful struggle for the release of the former prime minister.

He added that nationwide membership for the proposed force would begin soon, including members from the Insaf Student Federation (ISF), Insaf Youth Wing, Women Wing, Minority Wing, professionals and individuals from all walks of life.

Membership cards are expected to be ready within four to five days, he said, adding that members would be administered an oath in Peshawar after Eid Al Fitr.

The force would have a structured chain of command, and its leadership would be appointed by the PTI founder.

“We will first complete our preparations and then move forward,” Afridi said, adding that the movement would make efforts for the supremacy of the Constitution, democracy and free media.

He alleged that court orders were repeatedly being ignored and that the PTI founder’s personal physicians were not being allowed to examine him.

Afridi further stated that the “Imran Khan Release Force” would be dissolved once the former premier is released.
