Pakistan set 200-run target for Namibia in crucial match
Pakistan set Namibia a target of 200 runs to win in their final Group A match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, with the Green Shirts aiming for a win to qualify for the Super Eights.
After winning the toss, Pakistan elected to bat first against Namibia and set a target of 200 runs.
Opening batter Sahibzada Farhan struck a brilliant century, reaching the milestone off 57 balls with four sixes and 11 fours.
Pakistan lost their first wicket at 40 when Saim Ayub was dismissed for 14 runs. Captain Salman Agha scored 38 runs while Khawaja Nafee made five before returning to the pavilion.
Two changes were made to the Pakistan side for the match at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.
Fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi and spinner Abrar Ahmed were replaced by Khawaja Nafi and Salman Mirza.
The match is crucial for Pakistan after a 61-run defeat against India national cricket team on Feb. 15 complicated their position in the standings.
Pakistan are third in Group A with two wins and one loss from three matches and a net run rate of minus 0.403, lower than that of the United States national cricket team.
If the match is washed out by rain, both teams will receive one point each. Pakistan would then move to five points and advance to the Super Eight stage.
However, an upset defeat to Namibia could allow the United States to progress on four points with a superior net run rate.
Rain is a strong possibility in Colombo, with forecasts indicating a 50-60% chance of showers. Cloudy conditions and winds of around 19 kph are expected and could affect play.
