14 militants killed in two Balochistan counter-terrorism operations
Security forces in Balochistan conducted two separate counter-terrorism operations in Quetta and Barkhan, killing a total of 14 militants, officials said on Wednesday.
According to a spokesperson for the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), both operations were carried out based on credible intelligence.
In the first operation in Quetta, a team comprising law enforcers raided a militant’s hideout.
Militants opened fire on security personnel, prompting a retaliatory response.
Eight militants were killed in the shootout, while three security officers sustained injuries and were shifted to a hospital for treatment.
The CTD said a large cache of weapons and ammunition was recovered from the slain militants, who reportedly belonged to a proscribed organisation.
The second operation took place in Barkhan district, where security forces again exchanged fire with militants following an intelligence tip-off.
Six militants were killed during the encounter in Barkhan.
Following the operations, security forces have cordoned hae off the areas and launched search operations to apprehend any potential militants or their accomplices.
