Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday dismissed what he termed “baseless propaganda” regarding the health of former prime minister Imran Khan, saying the PTI founder had received comprehensive eye treatment from leading government and private doctors.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore, Naqvi rejected claims that Imran Khan had lost 85 per cent vision in his right eye.

The minister said the PTI founder underwent a detailed medical examination lasting between one and one-and-a-half hours, and that the medical report was now part of the official record.

Barrister Gohar stayed away

The interior minister said he had invited PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan to visit Adiala Jail so that the examination could take place in his presence.

However, he claimed the PTI leader did not arrive despite officials waiting for about an hour.

Naqvi added that PTI representatives and doctors later received a 45-minute briefing and expressed satisfaction with the treatment being provided to Imran Khan.

According to him, Imran Khan’s personal physicians also agreed that they would have recommended the same course of treatment.

Facilities for Imran Khan

He further said the PTI founder was brought to the hospital as a precaution for an eye injection, although the procedure could have been administered at Adiala Jail.

All facilities being provided to Imran Khan are documented, he added, stressing that it is the government’s responsibility to ensure medical care for every prisoner.

Naqvi said that the issue had been politicised, resulting in a three-day delay in the medical check-up, and said the government did not want to turn the matter into a political controversy or mislead the public.

Gohar seeks regular meetings

Meanwhile, speaking to the media in Islamabad, PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan said it was his right to meet the party founder and that the situation had worsened due to the lack of access.

He argued that if regular meetings had been allowed, the matter would not have escalated, and confusion over the treatment would have been avoided.

Gohar maintained that ensuring the well-being of the PTI founder in jail was the responsibility of the state and praised those working for his release.

He also directed party leaders to avoid making statements that could create misunderstandings among the public.
