Five police officials, including Station House Officer (SHO) Faheem Mumtaz Marwat, were martyred and a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) was seriously injured in a terrorist attack in the Wanda Budh area of Dera Ismail Khan on Wednesday.

According to police, militants opened fire on a police team, killing five personnel on the spot. DSP Paharpur Circle Adnan sustained critical injuries and was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Following the attack, a heavy police contingent reached the site. Law enforcement agencies launched a search operation in the surrounding areas and placed the district on high security alert.

Officials said efforts were underway to trace and arrest the attackers. Further investigations are in progress.
