A massive fire that erupted at a factory in the Rawat Industrial Estate in Rawalpindi on Monday continued to burn for hours, causing extensive damage and forcing the evacuation of nearby industrial units.

According to rescue officials, the fire was reported by factory owner Muhammad Usman at around 3:45 p,m. Initial investigations showed that the blaze first broke out in a warehouse before rapidly spreading to other parts of the facility.

The fire destroyed the entire stock of finished goods, with losses estimated to run into millions of rupees. Thick plumes of smoke were visible from several kilometres away.

A Rescue spokesperson said more than 45 personnel and 13 emergency vehicles were engaged in the operation. Firefighting teams from Bahria Town, Islamabad Fire Service and WASA Rawalpindi were also called in to assist.

Despite sustained efforts, authorities said the fire could not be brought under control even after more than three hours.

Rescue officials cited the absence of nearby fire hydrants as a major challenge. Fire engines were forced to travel several kilometres to refill water, slowing down the operation.

The situation worsened after nightfall, with poor visibility hampering rescue and firefighting efforts.

As a precautionary measure, adjacent factories were evacuated to prevent further damage and ensure worker safety.

No casualties had been reported till the filing of this report. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
