Three Palestinians killed in Israeli drone strike on Gaza
Three Palestinians were killed in the southern Gaza Strip on Monday in what local sources describe as part of continuing Israeli military actions, marking further violations of the October ceasefire.
The victims — Wissam Abdullah Salem Al Amour, Mahmoud Subhi Breika, and Atef Samir Al Bayouk — were reportedly struck by an Israeli drone in the Khan Younis area.
A Palestinian woman was also injured by gunfire in the Al Batn Al Sameen neighbourhood, according to media reports.
The attacks followed air strikes and shelling across multiple parts of the enclave. Since the start of the conflict in October 2023, Israeli operations in Gaza have left more than 71,400 people dead, mostly women and children, and over 171,000 injured, according to Gaza health authorities.
Despite the ceasefire that began on October 10, Gaza authorities say Israel has carried out more than 1,193 violations through air, artillery, and gunfire, killing over 440 Palestinians and wounding more than 1,200 since then.
In a separate incident, Lieutenant Colonel Mahmoud Al Astal, police chief of Khan Younis, was killed in a targeted shooting in the Al Mawasi area near Gaza’s coast.
Gaza authorities reported that the attack was carried out by a car with multiple assailants linked to anti-Hamas militia groups collaborating with Israeli forces.
A militia leader claimed responsibility for the assassination.
Al Astal, 40, was the latest senior officer killed in Gaza following the death of Interior Ministry officer Ahmed Zamzam last month, who was shot in the Maghazi refugee camp in an attack authorities attributed to collaborators with Israel.
Security services have opened investigations into both killings.
Hussam Al-Astal, leader of the anti-Hamas group based in an area under Israeli control east of Khan Younis, claimed responsibility for the killing in a video he posted on his Facebook page.
The surname he shares with the dead man, Al Astal, is common in that part of Gaza.
“To those who work with Hamas, your destiny is to be killed. Death is coming to you,” he said, dressed in a black military-style uniform and clutching an assault rifle.
