NEPRA cuts electricity price by Rs0.62 per unit
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a reduction of Rs0.62 per unit in the base electricity tariff, with the revised rate to take effect from January 1, subject to government approval.
According to NEPRA, the annual tariff review has been completed for the period from January 2025 to December 2025, and the decision has been forwarded to the government so it can file a request for a uniform national tariff.
NEPRA stated that the national average electricity tariff for 2026 has been set at Rs33.38 per unit, compared to the previously determined Rs34 per unit for the fiscal year 2025–26, reflecting a reduction of Rs0.62 per unit.
Documents show that the estimated total financial requirement of electricity distribution companies for 2026 stands at Rs3,379 billion, including Rs2,923 billion for power purchase costs and Rs456.15 billion for company expenses, profits and previous financial adjustments.
NEPRA said the revised tariff will take effect only after final approval from the government.
Cut under FCA
Separately, electricity prices have also been reduced by Rs0.93 per unit under the Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) for November.
NEPRA has announced that the reduction under the November fuel charges adjustment will be passed on to consumers in their January electricity bills, offering some relief at the start of the new year.
The cut will apply to customers of all power distribution companies across the country, including K-Electric, under the uniform tariff system.
However, the cut will not extend to protected and lifeline consumers, nor will it apply to electric vehicle charging stations.
