A female pharmacy student was critically injured on Monday after jumping from the second floor of a private university on Raiwind Road, prompting a police and forensic investigation into the incident, the second reported at the same institution within a month.

The student, identified as Fatima, a first-semester pharmacy student, jumped from the building at around 9:40 a.m., according to initial police findings. She was rushed to Lahore General Hospital in a critical condition.

Police and forensic teams reached the scene soon after the incident, collected evidence, and secured CCTV footage from the university premises.

An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the incident.

Following the incident, the university administration suspended on-campus activities and issued a notification shifting classes online.

Students at the university expressed serious concerns over what they described as the administration’s and faculty’s conduct, alleging that inappropriate behaviour may have contributed to the incident.

They claimed it was the second such case at the university in less than a month.

University Registrar said Fatima had been enrolled for only two months and that there was no fee-related issue on record.

He added that mental health factors could be a possible cause, though the matter was under investigation.

According to Dr Yahya, Director Emergency at Lahore General Hospital, Fatima is being treated in the ICU and has sustained severe head and chest injuries, along with fractures in both legs.

A team of senior doctors is overseeing her treatment.

Special medical board constituted

Hospital officials said a special medical board has been constituted under the supervision of Professor Jodat Saleem to ensure comprehensive care.

The board includes neurosurgeon Professor Shehzad Hussain Shah, Associate Professor of Surgery Dr Muhammad Shabbir Ahmed Chaudhry, and Associate Professor Orthopaedics Dr Tahir Mahmood. The board has been directed to submit a report within 24 hours.

Principal Ameer-ud-Din Medical College Farooq Afzal said all possible medical facilities were being provided to the injured student. A formal notification for the medical board has also been issued.

Fatima’s family said she is the youngest among five siblings.

They stated that she had spoken to them on the phone the previous night in a normal and cheerful mood and they were unaware of any reason behind the suicide attempt.

Meanwhile, the brother of Muhammad Owais, a student who died by suicide at the same university a few weeks ago, raised objections over the previous inquiry.

He alleged that despite assurances of a joint investigation committee, the university formed a panel comprising only its own members and did not share the findings with the family.

Students and families have called for an impartial investigation and urged the Punjab Chief Minister to take notice of the incidents.
