Iran offers to mediate between Pakistan and Afghan Taliban

Tehran expresses concern over rising tensions

Iran has offered to mediate between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban amid ongoing tensions between the two sides, Iranian media reported on Sunday.

According to Iran’s state news agency, Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi made the offer during a telephone conversation with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

The two sides discussed bilateral relations, as well as recent regional and international developments, the report said.

During talks, Araghchi highlighted the historic and friendly ties between Pakistan and Iran, and expressed Tehran’s desire to strengthen cooperation across various sectors.

The Iranian foreign minister voiced concern over the rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan and urged both countries to continue dialogue to resolve their differences and ease the situation.

Araghchi said that Iran was ready to extend “all possible assistance” to promote peace and reconciliation between Islamabad and Kabul.

Ishaq Dar briefed his Iranian counterpart on Pakistan’s recent engagement with Afghanistan and underlined the importance of maintaining regional peace and stability.

Both sides agreed to continue consultations on this matter.
