The Punjab government has extended the enforcement of Section 144 across the province for another seven days to maintain law and order and ensure public safety.

According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, the restrictions will remain in effect until November 15.

Under the order, all rallies, processions, sit-ins, demonstrations and public protests are strictly prohibited, while gatherings of four or more people in public places will not be allowed.

The notification also maintains a complete ban on the display of weapons, the use of loudspeakers, and the publication or distribution of hate or sectarian material.

However, weddings, funerals and burials are exempted from the restrictions.

Government officials, law enforcement personnel and courts have also been excluded from the purview of the order.

The use of loudspeakers will be permitted only for Azaan (call to prayer) and Friday sermons.

A spokesperson for the Home Department said the decision was made to maintain peace and protect the lives and property of citizens, adding that public gatherings and sit-ins could become soft targets for terrorists.

The department has appealed to citizens to cooperate with authorities in maintaining law and order during this period.
