Upper house likely to approve formation of joint parliamentary committee with NA to review proposed amendment

The federal cabinet will meet on Friday morning under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to approve the draft of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, official sources said on Thursday.

The meeting, scheduled for 9:00 a.m. at the Parliament House, will include a detailed briefing on the proposed amendment before its expected approval by the cabinet.

According to sources, following cabinet approval, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar will formally table the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill in the Senate later in the day.

Parliamentary sources said the Senate is expected to approve the formation of a joint parliamentary committee with the National Assembly (NA) to review the proposed amendment.

The Senate chairman will seek nominations from the NA speaker for the committee, which will be chaired by Senator Farooq H. Naek, they added.
