Over 6,000 fines were issued in Karachi for seatbelt and helmet violations alone

Sindh Police have crossed the Rs100 million mark in e-challans within just 48 hours, making it the most active force in the country’s latest traffic enforcement drive.

According to traffic police data, citizens were fined more than Rs100 million during the last two days under the new electronic ticketing system.

The minimum fine is Rs5,000, while the maximum penalty reaches Rs100,000, depending on the nature of the violation.

During 48 hours, 4,400 drivers were fined for not wearing seatbelts, each carrying a Rs10,000 penalty, while 1,564 motorcyclists received e-challans for riding without helmets, an offence with the same Rs10,000 fine.

In total, 6,048 challans were issued for seatbelt and helmet violations alone, amounting to Rs64.8 million in fines.

The remaining penalties were imposed for wrong-way driving, over-speeding, use of mobile phones while driving, fancy number plates, and signal violations, which affected around 1,000 motorists.

Officials say the intensified e-challan campaign aims to enforce road safety regulations and curb reckless driving across Karachi’s main arteries, including Sharea Faisal.
