The Sindh Home Department on Sunday constituted a high-level committee to investigate the death of senior journalist Khawar Hussain.

Khawar Hussain’s body was found in his car parked near a hotel in Sanghar on Saturday, with a gunshot wound to the temple.

The committee will be headed by a Grade 21 officer, with two DIGs and the SSP of Sanghar as its members.

According to DIG Faisal Bashir Memon, the pistol found in the car belonged to Khawar, which he had kept for safety.

He had parked his car and visited the washroom twice. CCTV footage shows that he was alone.

Khawar first went to the hotel manager to ask for the washroom, then returned and sat in his car.

He got out again and asked the security guard about the washroom, then went near the washroom again and returned to his car.

In all of the CCTV footage, Khawar appears to be alone. The CCTV camera was installed on the passenger side of the driver’s seat, and no other person is visible.

The hotel manager reportedly told the security guard: “Go and check with him if he wants to order something; it’s been a while.”

When the guard approached the car, he found Khawar’s body inside, with a gunshot wound. The police will examine the case thoroughly.

Khawar Hussain’s funeral prayers will be held on Monday after Zuhr prayer at the family graveyard in Sanghar.

His parents and brother will arrive from the US in Karachi at 4am and head to Sanghar.
