The opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Sunday expelled five of its National Assembly members for defying party policy by voting in favour of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, which was tabled by the ruling coalition.

A formal notification, signed by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, has been issued confirming their expulsion.

The expelled lawmakers include Zahoor Qureshi, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, Mubarak Zeb Khan, Ilyas Chaudhry, and Usman Ali.

According to the notification, these members violated party discipline by supporting the amendment during the National Assembly session held on October 21, 2024, despite a unanimous decision within the party to oppose it.

The PTI notification stated that the dissenting MNAs were issued show-cause notices for their actions but failed to respond.

The party termed their conduct a serious breach of party loyalty and oath, warranting disciplinary action.

The notification further asserts that the expelled members are also liable for disqualification from their parliamentary seats under constitutional provisions regarding party defection.

The PTI has called for their formal disqualification and urged the relevant authorities to take immediate action.
