Pakistan secures place in Asia Hockey Cup U-18 final
Pakistan’s Under-18 hockey team have secured their spot in the finals of the Asia Hockey Cup after an exciting victory over Malaysia in the semi-final match held in China.
Pakistan edged past Malaysia 4-3 in the penalty shootout to advance to the final against Japan after the match ended with a 3-3 draw during the regular time that pushed the semi-final into a dramatic decider.
Goalkeeper Ghulam Mustafa played a pivotal role in Pakistan’s victory, saving two crucial goals during the shootout. Mustafa, who hails from Lahore, was instrumental in keeping Pakistan’s hopes alive in the tense moments of the match.
In the other semi-final, Japan defeated Bangladesh 6-4 to step forward in the finals.
The final between Pakistan and Japan will be played on Sunday.
Pakistan’s journey in the group stage remained exceptional. In the group stage, the team thrashed Hong Kong 8-0, Sri Lanka 9-0, and Bangladesh 6-3. In the quarter-final, Pakistan outclassed hosts China by a 2-1 win.
