Showers bring relief from heatwave across multiple areas of Karachi
Late-night showers swept through numerous Karachi neighborhoods, breaking the intense heatwave and ushering in pleasant weather across the city. Rain was recorded in Gulistan-e-Johar, Gadap, Malir, Quaidabad, Surjani Town, North Karachi, and New Karachi.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast additional rain in Karachi during the night and morning hours, with heavier downpours expected to begin on Friday.
Thunderstorms and rain have also been predicted in Islamabad today. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain is likely in Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, and Bajaur districts, while other areas will see partly cloudy skies.
According to the Met Office, Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are also expected to receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms. Further showers have been forecast for Musakhel, Barkhan, Khuzdar, Zhob, and Kalat.
In response to the monsoon system, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert valid through July 8, warning of possible flooding.
The authority stated that heavy rainfall is anticipated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, and northeastern Punjab, which could trigger flash floods in local streams and rivers.
NDMA has urged the public to stay away from waterways and take necessary precautions to deal with any emergencies.
Relevant departments have been directed to remain vigilant and ensure rescue and relief operations are fully prepared.
