Mild earthquake measuring 2.8 on the Richter scale jolted Karachi on Tuesday morning, with tremors felt across parts of the city at 9:57am. The quake, centered 15 kilometers southeast of Malir at a depth of 40 kilometers, caused panic among residents, many of whom rushed out of homes and offices in fear.

The seismic activity, which has sparked fear and anxiety among locals, continued into late Monday night, with a notable tremor striking at 12:53am.

The quake measured 3.0 on the Richter scale. According to the Seismological Center, the epicenter of the latest tremor was approximately 30 kilometers east of DHA, at a depth of 13 kilometers.

A series of minor earthquakes jolted Karachi over the past 24 hours, with ten tremors reported in different parts of the city, causing widespread fear and unease among residents.

The strongest tremors were reported in areas including Quaidabad, Malir, Saudabad, Khokhrapar, Steel Town, and Gulistan-e-Jauhar. The unexpected jolts sent residents fleeing their homes, many reciting prayers as they rushed to open spaces.

The Met Office confirmed that no casualties or property damage have been reported. However, experts have identified the tremors as aftershocks, which may persist intermittently over the next 48 hours.

The most intense quake in this sequence, recorded since the onset of the tremors yesterday evening, reached a magnitude of 3.2.

While Karachi does not lie on a known fault line, seismologists explain that environmental changes and underground pressure could be triggering these localized, low-intensity tremors. They have advised the public to remain calm but to follow safety precautions.

The frequent tremors caused temporary halts in activities at schools and offices in some areas.

Meanwhile, videos and eyewitness accounts of the seismic events quickly circulated on social media, fueling concern and speculation among citizens.
