Senior govt official removed over sexual harassment charges
The Punjab Ombudsperson has ordered the dismissal of Moazzam Supra, former Director General of the Punjab Land Record Authority (PLRA), after charges of sexual harassment at the workplace were found to be proven.
The Ombudsperson determined that the former DG was guilty of harassing Fareeha Aram, a former Assistant Director Land Records (ADLR), during her time at the authority. The verdict stated that Fareeha Aram’s allegations were credible and substantiated through the investigation.
The decision noted that the complainant was fired from her job after refusing to comply with inappropriate demands. It also found that she was deliberately made to sit idly for extended hours, called into private chambers to mark attendance, and subjected to psychological pressure.
The verdict further stated that the former officer was held in unlawful confinement and faced continuous mistreatment and inappropriate behaviour from her superior.
The Ombudsperson’s office has directed the relevant authorities to enforce the dismissal orders promptly. The case has sparked serious concerns regarding abuse of power within government institutions and has been seen as a significant development in upholding workplace harassment laws in Punjab.
