Pakistan shoots down five Indian military jets after Delhi launches missile strike at six Pakistani locations
What we know so far
- At around 1am Pakistan time, Indian aircraft while remaining in their airspace launched missile attack at six locations in Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
- At least 26 people were martyred and 36 injured, mainly women and children, according to Pakistan military spokesperson Lt. Gen Ahmed Sharif. Three mosques were damaged.
- India strike also damaged a power project on Neelum Jhelum, contrary to Indian claims who said they did not target civilian, economy or military installations.
- In response, Pakistan had taken down five Indian military aircraft, including three Rafale, and one drone before 5am, according to military and state-run PTV. Defense Minister Khawaja Asif also confirmed that Pakistan had shot down five Indian aircraft. International news agency Reuters quoted four local officials in India-held Kashmir saying threw aircraft had crashed in the area. Reuters also carried the photos of the debris.

A cowardly Indian missile strike targeted six locations, including Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad, on Tuesday night resulting in the martyrdom eight people, Pakistan military said.
Pakistan has initiated a retaliatory response which continued several hours after the indian attack. Before 4am, Pakistan had taken down five Indian aircraft, including three Rafale, and one drone, besides destroying a brigade headquarters of Indian army.
CNN reported a loud blast near Sringar in the Indian Occupied Kashmir.
Details of Indian missile attack
A Pakistani foreign office statement indicated that Indian aircraft launched missiles in Pakistan and AJK while remaining within Indian airspace.
In the wee hours of Wednesday, Director General ISPR Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif held a press conference and stated that Pakistan will deliver a strong and decisive response to Indian aggression.
DG ISPR said India carried out 24 attacks on six different locations, resulting in the martyrdom of 8 Pakistani citizens and injuries to 35 others. He later put the toll at 26 martyed and 46 injured.
He said that four strikes were carried out on Subhan Mosque in Ahmedpur East, where a girl was among the four people martyred and 31 others were injured.
In Muzaffarabad, Bilal Mosque was targeted, resulting in the injury of a young girl and the complete destruction of the mosque.
In Kotli, Abbas Mosque was attacked, leading to the martyrdom of a 16-year-old girl and a child.
In Muridke, a mosque was attacked, resulting in one death, one injury, and two people reported missing.
In Sialkot, two shells landed in a village but caused no casualties.
Shakargarh was targeted in two attacks, with minor damage reported to a local dispensary.
The DG ISPR said that the international media was taken to the Line of Control yesterday to witness the situation on the ground.
He sid they were scheduled to visit Muridke and Bahawalpur on Tuesday, but India deliberately targeted innocent civilians.
The DG ISPR added that foreign media will now be taken to these affected areas in the morning to verify the facts.
Indian military jets shot down
Pakistan shot down a total of five Indian military jets and a drone before 5am.
Defense Minister Khwaja Asif confirmed Pakistan had shot down five Indian aircraft. Pakistan had an upper hand in the fight, he said early Wednesday.
The first two kills were reported by the PTV.
“According to initial reports, the Pakistan Air Force has shot down two enemy aircraft. All Pakistani Air Force aircraft are safe. Pakistan armed forces are giving a befitting reply to the enemy’s aggression,” PTV reported.
CNN also quoted Pakistani military spokesperson as saying that Pakistan had taken down two Indian military aircraft.
“There are two confirmed aircraft of the Indian Air Force have already been shot down,” Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, spokesperson for the Pakistani military, told CNN’s Jim Sciutto. “There are other reports of multiple damages that the Pakistani forces, both on ground and air, have inflicted. But I can confirm you at least two aircraft of Indian Air Force that have been downed,” he added.

Security sources said one aircraft crashed in Bhattanda and the other in Akhnoor.
Security sources later said a third aircraft was shot down 15 NM North East of Avantipura.
Two other aircraft were taken down later with security sources putting the total number at five. These include three Rafale, one MIG, and one SU-30, according to security sources.
Two video shared on social media suggested one Indian aircraft went down near a school in the Indian Occupied Kashmir. Kashmiris are heard speaking about the incident in the video.
Heavy losses of Indian troops
Pro-BJP Indian journalist Aditya Raj Kaul tweeted in the wee hours of Wednesday, “Pampore. Akhnoor. Ramban. Prayers for our bravehearts,” hinting at heavy losses of Indian military.

Security sources said at the Line of Control (LoC), Indian troops abandoned the Joli Post and fled from 50 military posts in the Budori sector.
As the Indian troops retreated, Pakistan Army targeted them with artillery fire.
Reports suggest heavy casualties among Indian forces due to Pakistan Army’s shelling.
In the Peer Kanthi sector as well, Indian troops deserted 40 posts, and Pakistan’s retaliatory action reportedly resulted in multiple fatalities.
A video shared on social media showed fire at, what is believed to be, an Indian brigade headquarters, as people could be heard shouting.
An exchange of fire was reported on the control line in Dudhnial sector.
The Indian missile attack began after midnight and was met with immediate retaliations.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also said India had attacked five locations in Pakistan.
Security sources said India attacked locations in Kotli, Ahmedpur Sharqia, Muzafarabad, Bagh and Muridke.

Indian aircraft blocked from entering Pakistani airspace
DG ISPR stated that no Indian aircraft were allowed to enter Pakistani territory. The Pakistan Air Force remains on high alert, prepared to respond decisively to any further aggression. “Pakistan will choose the time and method for a full-scale response,” he added.
Aviation sources confirmed that Lahore’s airspace has been completely shut down for 48 hours as a precautionary measure. Citizens are advised to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel.
