Pakistan has expressed concern over a tragic shooting incident that took place in Pahalgam, a well-known tourist spot in Indian occupied Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of 26 tourists and injuries to 10 others, including two foreign nationals.

The sudden attack occurred in the scenic Baisaran Meadows on Tuesday afternoon around 2:30pm and lasted for approximately five minutes, leaving visitors in shock.

In response, Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan conveyed condolences to the victims’ families and wished a swift recovery for the injured, emphasizing Pakistan’s sorrow over the loss of lives.

“We are concerned at the loss of tourists’ lives in an attack in Anantnag district of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. We extend our condolences to the near ones of the deceased and wish the injured a speedy recovery,” Pakistan foreign office said in a statement issued in response to media queries.

Delayed response from Indian authorities

Following the attack, the response from Indian military and police was notably delayed, allowing the assailants to escape. Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos, with people fleeing for their lives in open fields, as there was no place to hide.

Media and government reactions

In the aftermath, Indian media and government officials quickly shifted blame toward Pakistan, with some channels alleging that the attack was motivated by religious animosity, targeting non-Hindu tourists. The Kashmir Resistance Front has claimed responsibility for the incident.

Allegations of a false flag operation

Sources suggest this incident may be another false flag operation by India, aimed at diverting global attention from the worsening security situation in the region. Analysts point out that the timing coincides with a visit from a significant U.S. delegation to India, raising concerns about a deliberate distraction.

Former Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani criticized India’s unfounded accusations against Pakistan, noting that Indian agencies have previously been involved in similar attacks. He argued that this incident is an attempt to tarnish the Kashmir struggle.

Social media response

The Pakistani public and social media users have robustly rejected the narrative promoted by Indian media. The hashtag “IndianFalseFlag” has become a trending topic, with thousands challenging the Indian claims.

Rising tensions in the valley

Pahalgam, often referred to as “Mini Switzerland,” is now shrouded in fear and uncertainty. In response to the attack, Indian forces have initiated operations in the area.

Indian Prime Minister Modi has cut short his visit to Saudi Arabia, directing Interior Minister Amit Shah to travel to Pahalgam.

Former Chief Ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah condemned the attack, labeling it a crime against humanity. Officials have assured that those responsible will be brought to justice swiftly.
