Renowned Pakistani chef Zakir Hussain passes away at 58
Celebrated Pakistani chef Zakir Hussain, widely known for his mastery in cooking and engaging television presence, passed away at the age of 58.
He had been battling kidney disease for a long time and was undergoing regular dialysis.
According to family sources, Chef Zakir passed away at 8pm Sunday night. He had been receiving treatment in the United States, where doctors had given up hope. Approximately a month ago, he returned to Pakistan to spend his remaining days with loved ones.
His funeral prayer will be held on Tuesday after Asr prayers at Jamia Rashidia, Malir Saudabad, and he will be laid to rest at the Saudabad cemetery.
A culinary legend and household name
Born on February 16, 1967, Zakir Hussain—often affectionately referred to as Zakir Qureshi—gained immense popularity through his live cooking shows on various Pakistani TV channels. His engaging style and ability to simplify complex recipes won him fans not only in Pakistan but also in India, Bangladesh, and other countries.
He was an expert in both Pakistani and international cuisines and taught thousands of recipes to home cooks through his programs.
