Karachi goods transporters call off strike after successful talks with commissioner
Transporters have announced an end to their strike, which happened due to successful negotiations between the transporters and the Karachi Commissioner.
However, transporters had paralyzed the cargo transportation system at Karachi’s ports due to a strike.
This has significantly impacted both import and export processes and delivered a severe blow to the national economy.
The strike protests the Sindh government’s directives for vehicle repairs and the installation of cameras in transport vehicles.
In response to the serious situation, the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has formally requested immediate intervention from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
KCCI President Jawed Bilwani reported that the strike has trapped export goods in factories while halting imported consignments at the ports. The lack of transportation has rendered the logistics system inoperative.
The KCCI has indicated that the strike affects not only exports but also the agricultural sector. Specifically, the export of fruits and vegetables is at risk, and onion farmers may incur losses.
Bilwani cautioned that failure to resolve the strike quickly could result in irreparable financial damage.
The chamber has urged both federal and provincial governments to engage in immediate negotiations to find a sustainable solution.
Additionally, they have appealed for the urgent clearance of consignments currently stuck at the ports.
President Bilwani has called on the Prime Minister to take prompt and decisive action, stressing that any delay in addressing the current situation could further harm the national economy.
