Israeli occupation forces launched attacks on several mosques in the West Bank city of Nablus after Friday prayers, setting a historic mosque ablaze, reports Al Jazeera.

According to eyewitnesses, Israeli troops stormed the historic Al-Nasr Mosque, desecrated its sanctity, and caused extensive damage. The forces deliberately set the mosque on fire, preventing firefighters from putting out the flames.

The fire destroyed the prayer leader’s chamber, while the mosque’s doors, walls, and carpets were also reduced to ashes, witnesses reported.

The Palestinian Ministry of Religious Affairs strongly condemned the attacks on Nablus mosques and the intentional burning of Al-Nasr Mosque, calling it a blatant violation of religious, moral, and international principles.

Al-Nasr Mosque is one of Nablus’s most significant historical landmarks. Originally built as a Roman-era church, it was converted into a mosque in 1187.

The ministry further stated that such cowardly actions have been unprecedented since the Nakba of 1948, highlighting Israel’s disregard for religious and international norms.

Since the Gaza war began on October 7, 2023, Israeli aggression has resulted in the martyrdom of 930 Palestinians, with over 7,000 injured.
