ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani Meteorological Department has released the data for monsoon 2022, according to which Karachi received the highest at 120mm at Masroor base.

DHA in Karachi flooded again, much to the distress of residents. The big question was why it had flooded after the experience of 2020, and, in fact, 2007.

The monsoon of August 2007 brought in a record unprecedented 250mm in less than 12 hours, prompting the housing authority to overhaul its stormwater drainage.

M/S Techno Consultant International (headed by Dr Bashir Lakhani who built K-III successfully) was hired to create the new system. A DHA report from 2009 described the new drainage network as comprising seven Main Trunk Drains with interconnecting interceptor drains. The main trunks end at Beach Avenue on Seaview and drain rainwater into the sea. DHA said that it created drains where none existed before and linked local depressions to nearby trunks.
