Pakistan Rangers said on Thursday that they arrested a most-wanted terrorist linked to Fitna al-Khwarij during an operation in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area of Karachi.
A Rangers spokesperson said the suspect, identified as Dost Muhammad, son of Gul Faraz Khan and a resident of Bajaur, was involved along with accomplices in a November 2020 attack in which the Assistant Commissioner Nawagai in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was fired upon, and government machinery was set ablaze.
Officials said a case related to the incident had been registered under serious terrorism provisions in the CTD Malakand Region. The suspect had been hiding in Karachi following the attack.
According to Rangers officials, the arrested militant was planning attacks at sensitive locations in the city with other accomplices. Raids were underway to arrest the remaining suspects.
The spokesperson said the detainee had been handed over to the CTD Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for further legal action.
