Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has regained nearly 70 per cent of his eyesight following medical treatment, according to a report submitted to the Supreme Court of Pakistan, as his detailed medical assessment became public on Monday.
The preliminary report, prepared after a comprehensive eye examination at Adiala Jail, was signed by ophthalmologists Nadeem Qureshi and Muhammad Arif Khan.
According to the report, a medical board comprising experts from Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital and Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences examined the PTI founder on February 15, 2026.
The board noted a marked improvement in the former prime minister’s vision. Without glasses, vision in his right eye was recorded at 6/24 (partial), while the left eye was 6/9. With corrective lenses, the right eye improved to 6/9 (partial) and the left eye to 6/6.
Medical findings showed signs of inflammation and disrupted blood flow in the retina of the right eye.
However, swelling had reduced significantly, with retinal thickness declining from 550 to 350, indicating recovery.
Doctors reported that vision had improved from 6/36 to 6/9 (partial), which was termed satisfactory at this stage.
The board prescribed Nevanac and Systane Ultra eye drops for both eyes and Cosopt drops for the right eye.
Specialists also recommended OCT angiography and fundus fluorescein angiography after the completion of anti-VEGF therapy.
The report stated that PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan and Raja Nasir Abbas visited PIMS, where doctors briefed them on Khan’s condition.
His personal physicians, Asim Yousuf and Khurram Mirza, were also given a 25-minute briefing over the phone and expressed satisfaction with the progress.
In a video message, Dr Asim Yousuf said he had spoken directly with the treating doctors, adding that he would verify the findings after conducting his own examination.
Meanwhile, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan met Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and briefed him on Khan’s treatment and related arrangements. He informed the chief justice that Khan’s eyesight had recovered by approximately 67 to 70 per cent following medical intervention.
Earlier, a team of specialist doctors had conducted a detailed examination at Adiala Jail and reported to the Supreme Court that Khan’s vision had improved to around 70 per cent.
Following the assessment, the medical team also briefed the leadership of PTI and Khan’s family, expressing satisfaction with his treatment and recovery process.
Khan was previously shifted to PIMS after complaining of severe eye pain, where doctors diagnosed him with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO).
The condition occurs when a major retinal vein becomes blocked, leading to bleeding, swelling, and potential loss of central vision.
After reports of Khan’s deteriorating eyesight emerged in the media, the Supreme Court intervened and appointed Salman Safdar as amicus curiae. He was directed to visit Adiala Jail, meet Khan, and submit a detailed report to the court.
A two-member bench headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi reiterated during Tuesday’s hearing that Salman Safdar must assess Khan’s health condition and the facilities available to him in custody and present his findings before the court.
