One dead, six injured in Lahore Basant accidents

One young man died, and six were injured, including children, in various accidents during kite flying on the occasion of Basant in Lahore, rescue officials said on Friday.

Twenty-five-year-old Ali Rashid Kati lost his life after climbing an electric pole near the Sikh Canal to fly a kite and suffered electrocution. Rescue officials have handed over his body to his family.

Among the injured, three were children: a child in Gulshan-e-Ravi was hurt after a kite string got caught around his neck, while another fell from a roof in the Ravi Road area.

Twelve-year-old Abdul Wahid sustained injuries while flying a kite in Lower Mall, and 14-year-old Salman was injured in Gulshan-e-Ravi.

Other incidents include a 45-year-old man, Shabbir, who was injured after a kite string snapped in Gulshan-e-Ravi, and a young man was hurt in Defence Phase 5 when a string broke, with rescue efforts underway.

Authorities have reminded citizens to follow safety guidelines during Basant to prevent accidents.
