Talha Anjum sparks online debate after raising Indian flag at Nepal concert

Pakistani rapper Talha Anjum has stirred controversy online after raising the Indian flag during a concert in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Videos of the performance circulated widely over the weekend, drawing both criticism and support from fans.

Taking to social media, Anjum defended his action, writing:

“My heart has no place for hate. Art has no borders. If raising an Indian flag sparks controversy, so be it. I’ll do it again. Will never care about the media, the war-mongering governments and their propaganda. Urdu rap is and always will be borderless.”

Many Pakistani users criticised him for showing support for India despite the nations’ strained relations.

Some cited India’s alleged involvement in terrorism in Pakistan, while others pointed out that Anjum’s music remains blocked on platforms like Spotify and YouTube in India.

A few users also accused him of lacking empathy for those affected by cross-border violence.

On the other hand, his fans applauded his act as bold and commendable.

Some argued that raising a foreign flag does not make someone anti-Pakistan and supported Anjum’s artistic freedom.

The incident comes after Anjum’s planned Indian debut last December was cancelled due to organisational and financial issues.

The cancelled tour had stops in Mumbai, Bengaluru, and New Delhi.

Despite the polarising reactions, the rapper’s act has sparked widespread online discussion, with users divided on whether it reflects artistic expression or insensitivity to political tensions.
