Peace jirga to be held in KP Assembly today amid tight security

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government will hold a peace jirga in the provincial assembly on Wednesday to review the province’s security and law and order situation.

According to officials, security arrangements for the jirga have been finalised.

Seating arrangements have been made for 400 participants, while special entry passes have been issued to the attendees.

Participation of all political parties has been confirmed, and former chief ministers are also expected to attend.

The jirga’s declaration will be shared with the federal government and all security institutions. It has also been decided to present the declaration before the Apex Committee.

Entry of unrelated persons to the assembly premises will remain prohibited. Forty speakers are expected to address the gathering.

Governor assures cooperation

Meanwhile, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said it was an honour for him to sit together with the provincial government and all political parties for peace in the province.

He expressed these views during a meeting with a parliamentary delegation of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) at the Governor House, Peshawar.

The delegation included Speaker KP Assembly Babar Saleem Swati, MNAs Junaid Akbar, Asad Qaiser, Mehboob Shah, Sibghatullah, Atif Khan, Dr Amjad, and Saleem ur Rehman, among others.

Governor Kundi accepted the invitation to attend the peace jirga and assured full cooperation, stating that as the constitutional head of the province, he was committed to working collectively with all political forces for peace and progress.

“The current situation demands unity and joint efforts for the province’s stability and prosperity,” he added.
