Amazon’s ‘Project Kuiper’ to launch satellite broadband services in Pakistan by 2026

In a landmark move to boost digital connectivity across Pakistan, Amazon’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite initiative, Project Kuiper, has announced plans to launch its satellite broadband services in the country by the end of 2026.

The announcement came following a high-level meeting between Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, and a delegation from Project Kuiper. The project, part of Amazon’s multi-billion-dollar global investment in satellite internet infrastructure, aims to bring high-speed internet access to underserved and remote areas worldwide.

Welcoming the initiative, Federal Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja said:

“Project Kuiper’s entry into Pakistan is a step forward in advancing digital inclusion and strengthening our connectivity ecosystem. These investments align with the Government’s vision of building a Digital Nation Pakistan where every citizen, regardless of geography, has access to fast, affordable, and secure internet services.”

As part of its plan, the Kuiper team expressed its intent to establish ground infrastructure in Pakistan, including satellite gateways and points of presence (PoPs), to ensure reliable connectivity and seamless integration with the country’s digital ecosystem.

With a proposed constellation of up to 3,236 satellites, Project Kuiper aims to deliver high-performance broadband with speeds of up to 400 Mbps through affordable user terminals. The service is expected to benefit remote regions where conventional internet infrastructure has been difficult or costly to implement.

Officials say the collaboration could create significant new opportunities for Pakistan’s IT sector by enhancing connectivity, encouraging innovation, and narrowing the digital divide. The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication reaffirmed its commitment to supporting global partnerships that contribute to the Prime Minister’s vision for a modern, connected, and inclusive Digital Pakistan.
