Saudi Arabia has officially rolled out Google pay, integrating the service with its national payment system, “Mada” the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) announced.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the launch was unveiled during the Money 20/20 Middle East Conference and Exhibition in Riyadh.
The move is part of SAMA’s strategy to expand digital payment options and strengthen the Kingdom’s financial technology ecosystem.
Google pay will enable users to make secure “Tap to Pay” transactions in stores, with support for in-app and online payments to follow soon.
The service also allows users to add and manage their Mada debit cards alongside international credit cards such as Visa and Mastercard through the Google Wallet app.
The platform incorporates multiple security measures, including industry-standard tokenisation. Each transaction is processed using a virtual card number unique to the device, paired with a dynamic security code that changes with every payment.
SAMA said the introduction of Google Pay reflects its commitment to enhancing digital payments in Saudi Arabia and meeting the evolving needs of consumers in the Kingdom.
