The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in eight cases related to the May 9 incidents.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi heard the case. Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi was included in the bench, replacing Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb.
Chief Justice Yahya Afridi delivered an oral verdict, granting bail in all eight cases and ordering Imran Khan’s release.
The Supreme Court accepted the bail petitions filed against the decision of the Lahore High Court and summoned both parties to the chamber at 1pm for the issuance of the written order.
In its ruling, the Supreme Court declared the Lahore High Court’s decision null and void.
It is worth noting that the hearing could not take place a day before due to the ill health of Special Prosecutor Zulfiqar Naqvi.
The court had subsequently ordered the case to be heard today.
